CYCLING
Never too busy, with a dense network of secondary roads, Basilicata allows for safe, peaceful cycling, offering unique landscapes and inviting you to rediscover a more natural pace of life.
Many companies offer cycling tours across this beautiful region; an itinerary for the Matera region, for example, would allow you to collect bicycles from Matera and would then offer you a tour in the Matera hills, taking in the town itself, Monescaglioso, Metaponto, along the San Giuliano lake, then along the ‘Appia Antco’ road to Irsina and the Bradano valley.
In the National Parks, cycle trails are well marked.

Sailing a popular past time
Skiing is becoming increasingly popular in winter
The rural roads and mountainous terrain offers a great setting for cycling
